NBC Says Goodbye To Katie Couric

NBC Says Goodbye To Katie Couric 5/31/06 Noon Jorge Estevez At the end of three hours of farewell tributes, Katie Couric raised a glass of champagne and said, "To everyone in T-V land, thanks so much." Even before her eyes grew swollen from sentimental tears, the "Today" show co-host acknowledged "feeling happy and sad and completely out of control." And she added, "You know how much I like that." Before an audience that included Couric's parents and two daughters, Couric said her proudest accomplishment was her work for colon cancer prevention following the death of her husband, Jay Monahan. Matt Lauer talked about his "genuine love and respect" for his longtime co-host. Couric reciprocated by teasing that she'll never have another partner like Lauer, because she won't be working with a partner. Couric is leaving to become the next anchor of the "C-B-S Evening News." Meredith Vieira will take her place at N-B-C in the fall.
