Hello, I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update on this Monday, October 15, 2007. Big stars hit the town Saturday night to honor one of Hollywood's leading women. Julia Roberts received the 22 annual Cinametheque award at a gala on Saturday night. The award recognizes an artist's contribution to film. Roberts won an Oscar for her role in "Erin Brockovich." Actress Natalie Portman was there as well as Marcia Gay Harden. Former co-star Dermot Mulroney also arrived to show his support as well as actor Blair Underwood and his wife Desiree. Country singer Joe Nichols has checked into rehab. His managers say he decided to enter a treatment program to deal with some "long-standing issues." There's no word on when or where he checked in. Nichols, known for his hit song "Another Side of You," just recently married his longtime girlfriend Heather Singleton. Rapper T.I. has been booked on weapon charges. He was scheduled to perform at the BET Hip hop awards over the weekend but was arrested just hour before the event. The rapper, who's real name is Clifford Harris was arrested in Atlanta for possession of unregistered machine guns. T.I. ended up winning two awards that night. Tyler Perry's "Why Did I get Married" grabbed the top spot at U.S. box offices over the weekend. The film, based on Perry's stage play about marriage took more than 21 million dollars in ticket sales in its first week out. That movie stars Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal and Malik Yoba. "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell celebrated his birthday with a shopping spree. He reportedly spent more than 2 million dollars on luxury cars...in honor of his 48 birthday. 1.5 million was apparently spent on a Bugatti Veyron and then another 800,000 dollars on a Rolls Royce. A source tells a British newspaper cars are Cowell's biggest passion. That's all for now. Go to upi.com to find the day's latest news and updates. Thanks for watching.
