Gov. Sarah Palin was the topic on “1600 Pennsylvania Avenue,” MSNBC’s new political talk-fest, when a verbal food fight broke out between Pat Buchanan and Lawrence O’Donnell, a heated classic that builds to a hilarious crescendo. At issue was Palin’s celebrity status within the Republican Party and if it’s intact for a 2012 run at the White House. Palin returned to Alaska and spoke about the clothes shopping scandal even as adversarial McCain (reported as former Bush) staffers and Republican Party insiders continued to feud following the McCain-Palin campaign disaster. High-level McCain staffers attacked Palin for being a “Wasilla hillbilly” and for her alarming ignorance, e.g., Palin did not know that Africa was a continent or that South Africa was a country or that Canada and Mexico were partners in NAFTA. Apparently McCain and Palin were not as advertised. Media bias aside, we have to be smarter news consumers and read between the lines.
